- Evidence for Evolution: before any living thing existed
- The Humanist Discussion Group meets on Wednesday, May 5th 2004, at 7:30 pm in Kreves Hall at the DuPage Unitarian Universalist Church. Mike Albrow, will introduce our topic and direct our discussion on "Evidence for Evolution: before any living thing existed". Mike is a member of DUUC, the American Humanist Association, and a member of our Chapter, the Humanists of West Suburban Chicagoland (AHA Chapter of the Year -- 2004).

- Humanists of West Suburban Chicagoland presents author, and lecturer Professor Jayanti Patel, President of the Indian Radical Humanist Association. Professor Patel will discuss the Gujarat riot, Humanism, Secularism and Democracy in the context of rising fundamentalism in India.

- Sunday of Labor Day Week End is August 31th. We are planning a back yard picnic at my house for all the Humanists and friends who would like to join us. More details will follow, but please save the date and join us if you are in town that weekend.

- We will celebrate Darwin Day with a special presentation. At 6:30pm we will gather for a potluck dinner (bring a dish to pass). The meeting will start at 7:30pm with our special guest, Roger Brewin, portraying the famous attorney Clarence Darrow and speaking to us about the "Monkey Trial" at which Mr. Darrow was the lead attorney defending teacher John Scopes.

- January 14th 2004, at 7:30 pm in Kreves Hall at the DuPage Unitarian Universalist Church, Betty Holcomb, the Illinois State Coordinator of the "Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice", will present, "War Against Women: An Attack on Equality." Ms. Holcomb, A Unitarian Universalist activist for over 30 years, will comment on the challenges to women as equal participants in today's society. Liberty, Equality and Opportunity are Humanist values high on the list. We will focus on "Equality" this time, and what we can do to assure it.

- On Wednesday, September 3rd, we will hold our first regular meeting of the program year. Our speaker for the evening will be Ed Yohnka, editor of the Alert, an ACLU publication. Our program will focus on the "Patriot Act" and the threat to American Civil Liberties. We will be talking about how our civil liberties are being eroded, and what can be done about it. We begin at 7:30 pm. Hope to see you there.

- Americans United presents Senator Richard Durbin, presenting "Separation of Church and State: A Vital Element in a Democracy". K.A.M. Isaiah Israel Congregation at 1100 E Hyde Park Blvd, Chicago. You are invited to join members of the Humanist Group at DUUC when we attend the major policy address by Senator Dick Durbin at the KAM Isaiah Israel Temple at 1100 East Hyde Park Boulevard in Chicago beginning at 3 pm. Let's meet at DUUC after 1:15 pm on Sunday, November 23rd 2003. We will leave at 1:30 pm intending to be a few minutes early. Please let me know if you will be going.
