There is a strong antigovernment movement in America today and it is not just in the population fringe. Skepticism of government is underlying the health care debate like an ever-looming cloud originating in Ayn Rands Objectivism and in Libertarianism. This talk will deal with how Catholicism, Communism and Libertarianism are all cut from the same cloth and how even non-theists can fall prey to the idolatry of secular Gods.

Michael Werner has served as President of the American Humanist Association, Vice President of the Humanist Endowment and a faculty member of the Humanist Institute. He has taught widely at major universities in the cause of Humanism and humanistic issues. He has recently been awarded the title of Celebrant by the Humanist Society of the AHA.

A long time member of the DuPage Unitarian church, he and wife Suzanne recently moved to Wilmington, North Carolina where they organized another Humanist chapter. They joined the Unitarian church in Charlotte, North Carolina where Mike currently serves as president.
