Some of us can remember being glued to the TV set during the 1950’s during the senate hearings, watching Senator Joe McCarthy terrify his witnesses with the question, “Are you now, or have you ever been a member of the Communist Party?” It was in that period that the American Humanist Association was born, a voice demanding a return to the Civil Liberties guaranteed in the American Constitution. Today, the AHA continues its mission with chapters springing out across the country, including one that meets at Dupage Unitiarian Church at 4S535 Old Naperville Road, Naperville, on the second Wednesday from September to June, generally with a lecture or discussion format.

But this month, the meeting will be a picnic under the sun on a special Saturday. One need not be a member to attend. Come as you are and be prepared for good discussion, warm fellowship and not so incidentally, a report on the AHA annual meeting that took place earlier this month. The gathering will be in Kreves Hall (our usual meeting place) and in the back yard, weather permitting. The main course and something to drink will be provided but we ask that you bring a dish to pass. We are already expecting 40 or more to attend. Be sure to RSVP Jack Sechrest at (630) 554-8058 (jack@skognet.com) and we’ll have a chair waiting for you.
